Snorkel Sail to Tiran Island

The Straits of Tiran separate Sinai from Saudi Arabia, and the currents running through them have carved out four named reefs — Jackson, Thomas, Woodhouse and Gordon — each with its own character, from steep walls to sprawling coral gardens.

A typical day covers two or three of the four, with the boat anchoring over shallow plateau sections so snorkelers can drop straight in without a wetsuit-heavy briefing. Reef sharks, napoleon fish and green turtles are seen often enough that guides will point them out rather than promise them outright.

Lunch is usually served on board between stops, and the crossing itself — open water with Saudi Arabia's mountains visible on the horizon — is part of the appeal for anyone who just wants a day on the water.
