This tour pairs two very different sides of Cairo's history. It starts at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square — the original 1902 building, which still holds an enormous, atmospheric collection of Pharaonic antiquities in century-old wood-and-glass cases, from royal mummies to everyday objects that didn't make the move to the newer Grand Egyptian Museum.
From there, it heads into Coptic Cairo, a walled quarter of ancient churches and a synagogue dating back to the 4th and 5th centuries, including the Hanging Church suspended above a Roman gatehouse, and a site tied to the tradition of the Holy Family's flight into Egypt.
