Citadel, Islamic Cairo & Khan el-Khalili Private Tour
From €63
This tour covers the heart of medieval Cairo in one day. It starts at the Citadel of Saladin, a hilltop fortress crowned by the Ottoman-style Mosque of Muhammad Ali, with panoramic views over the entire city on a clear day. From there, you move through Islamic Cairo's dense old streets, past centuries-old mosques and madrasas that make up one of the world's densest concentrations of medieval Islamic architecture.
The day ends at Khan el-Khalili, a covered bazaar trading since 1382 — narrow alleys of spice stalls, goldsmiths, coppersmiths and old coffeehouses where you can bargain for souvenirs or just sit with a mint tea and watch the market move.
Comfortable, closed shoes matter here — the old city's stone streets are uneven in places.
