What is changing on November 1, 2026?
The Grand Egyptian Museum, near the Giza pyramids, is due to charge more for entry from Sunday, November 1, 2026. Masrawy and El Watan News reported on April 15, 2026 that the museum's board, chaired by Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy, approved $5 more for foreign visitors and EGP 20 more for Egyptian visitors; El Balad's report that day gave the new totals, $35 and EGP 220.
El Watan News reported on October 8, 2026 that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities had announced the new prices from the start of November, and El Balad repeated this on October 14, 2026, adding that current prices stay until the end of October. Egypt Independent, in an edited translation of an Al-Masry Al-Youm report, listed the pound prices by category on October 18, 2026; Curly Tales gave the same new prices a day later. We could not read the ministry's announcement or an official price list, so treat every figure below as reported, not confirmed.

What are the reported prices?
The pound list has six ticket categories. Amounts are in Egyptian pounds (EGP).
| Ticket category | Current price | New price from November 1 |
|---|---|---|
| Arab or foreign visitor | EGP 1,570 | EGP 1,830 |
| Arab or foreign student or child | EGP 790 | EGP 920 |
| Foreign resident of Egypt | EGP 790 | EGP 920 |
| Foreign resident student or child | EGP 400 | EGP 460 |
| Egyptian visitor | EGP 200 | EGP 220 |
| Egyptian student, child or senior | EGP 100 | EGP 110 |

How much is that in dollars?
The Arabic reports frame the foreign ticket in dollars: $35, a $5 rise. In April, Masrawy reported that the museum's chief executive, Ahmed Ghoneim, said the ticket price is set at $30, without naming the ticket, and that ticket prices are updated monthly from the dollar exchange rate. Our reading, not a source's: the EGP 1,830 in Egypt Independent's list appears to be that dollar price in pounds (1,830 divided by 35 is about 52.3). Pound prices for foreign visitors can change with the dollar rate.

What does the museum's ticket page say?
The museum's ticket site, tickets.gem.eg, calls itself the only official website for buying tickets and says the museum takes no responsibility for tickets bought on other platforms. We read it on October 21, 2026; its text lists no prices. It does set out these rules:
- Categories. Egyptian, Arab or Other Nationality, and Expatriate.
- Ticket types. An Admission Ticket, or a Guided Tour Ticket that adds a group tour (not private) in Arabic or English.
- Entry time. You choose a time window for entering; it does not limit how long you stay.

Opening hours on the same page as of October 21, 2026 (last entry is one hour before the galleries close; the last column is derived):
| Days | Complex | Galleries | Last entry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday | 8:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m. | 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. | 5:00 p.m. |
| Wednesday, Saturday | 8:30 a.m.–10:00 p.m. | 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. | 8:00 p.m. |
What do the sources leave open?
- Tickets bought before November 1. No source we read says whether a ticket bought now for a later date keeps the old price. Curly Tales advises confirming on the official booking channel.
- The pound price on your day. Pound lists differ: on April 15, Masrawy and Youm7 showed EGP 1,590 for the standard Arab or foreign ticket and El Balad EGP 1,450; Egypt Independent's October 18 list shows EGP 1,570. Masrawy reported that prices are updated monthly from the dollar rate, so EGP 1,830 can differ when you book.
- Guided-ticket prices. Youm7's April 15, 2026 list of then-current prices had the Guided Tour Ticket for Arab or foreign adults at EGP 2,090, against EGP 1,590 for admission. None of the sources we read gives November 1 guided prices.
- Student, child and resident prices. We found no definition of who qualifies. The museum's page lists children under six as exempt from the admission fee.
- Buying at the museum. Amwal Al Ghad reported on November 30, 2025 that on-site sales would stop, but El Balad's April 15, 2026 report mentions tickets sold at direct booking offices. We cannot say whether you can buy at the gate.
What do our museum trip pages say about entrance fees?
Our Grand Egyptian Museum Exclusive Tour page lists a licensed Egyptologist guide and entrance fees among its inclusions and says the final price is confirmed before booking. The Hurghada to Cairo by Air page lists a private Egyptologist guide and entrance fees too. Neither mentions the museum's new ticket prices. Frequently asked questions
How much will a Grand Egyptian Museum ticket cost for foreign visitors from November 1, 2026?
El Watan News reported on October 8, 2026 that foreign visitors will pay $35, or the equivalent in Egyptian pounds, and El Balad's April 15, 2026 report gives the same $35. Egypt Independent reported EGP 1,830 on October 18, 2026, up from EGP 1,570. We could not read an official price list, so confirm the amount on tickets.gem.eg.
Why can the Egyptian-pound price change?
Masrawy reported on April 15, 2026 that the museum's chief executive, Ahmed Ghoneim, said ticket prices are updated monthly from the dollar exchange rate. Pound lists in different outlets do not match, so the figure on your booking day may differ. Check the amount on the booking page.
Does a ticket bought before November 1 keep the old price?
The sources we read do not say. El Balad reported on October 14, 2026 that the ministry said current prices stay until the end of October. Curly Tales tells readers who have booked, or plan to book, for a date after November 1 to check the official booking site for the price that applies.
Where can I buy tickets, and are they refundable?
tickets.gem.eg describes itself as the only official website for buying tickets. Its terms say tickets are non-refundable after purchase (force majeure excepted), allow one entry and cannot be transferred, and you pick an entry time when booking. The terms also mention self-service machines and ticket counters.
Is a guided tour ticket the same as an admission ticket?
No. tickets.gem.eg lists an Admission Ticket and a Guided Tour Ticket. The guided ticket includes admission plus a group tour with other visitors, in Arabic or English, and the page says it is not a private tour. The sources we read give no guided-ticket prices for November 1.
