Elphinstone's sheer walls plunge past 700 meters into the deep blue, making it one of the most sought-after dive sites in the for experienced divers. Its narrow, current-swept walls are lined with soft corals and gorgonian fans, and the site is famous for seasonal encounters with oceanic whitetip sharks and hammerheads patrolling the open water off the north plateau. Our trip includes two full dives at this legendary reef, guided by local dive leaders who know its currents and entry points well and will choose the best approach based on conditions on the day. Because of the strong currents and depth, this site is suited to divers holding an advanced certification and a solid number of logged dives. Between dives, you'll surface-rest aboard the boat and soak in the open-water views of the before heading back down. If you're chasing a genuine bucket-list dive rather than a casual reef swim, Elphinstone is the site that delivers it.
Two dives at Elphinstone, one of the Red Sea's most celebrated offshore reef walls, designed for advanced divers seeking a bucket-list encounter.
The Red Sea's coral reefs are among the youngest and most biodiverse in the world, formed within a tectonic rift that keeps these waters exceptionally clear and nutrient-rich, and Elphinstone stands out as one of its most dramatic formations. Isolated far from shore with sheer walls dropping into open ocean, it acts as a natural highway for pelagic life, which is why divers travel from across the globe specifically for a chance to see oceanic whitetips here. Diving it is less about ticking off a reef and more about experiencing the Red Sea at its rawest.
