SS Thistlegorm Wreck Diving Day Trip

The SS Thistlegorm is arguably the most famous wreck dive in the world, and a day trip out to it from Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada is a bucket-list experience for divers of every level. Sunk by German bombers in 1941 while carrying supplies for Allied forces in North Africa, the ship still sits largely intact on the seabed, its holds full of motorcycles, army trucks, rifles, and even two steam locomotives that were lashed to the deck.
Most trips run two dives — one exploring the exterior and holds, another focused on specific cargo details or the wreck's stern section — with a knowledgeable guide pointing out what's what along the way.
Given the depth (around 30m to the deck) and occasional current, an Advanced Open Water certification or equivalent experience is generally required.
