White Canyon & Colored Canyon Hike

A short drive inland from the coast, the Colored Canyon is one of Sinai's most striking natural formations — a narrow sandstone gorge whose walls are streaked in bands of red, purple, yellow and white from mineral deposits, in places barely wide enough to pass through sideways. The nearby White Canyon offers a different, paler rock formation and a slightly easier walk.
The hike itself doesn't require technical climbing experience, though there's some scrambling over rocks and a few narrow squeezes — sturdy, closed shoes make a real difference. A local Bedouin guide, usually included, knows the route and the geological story behind the rock's color bands.
Most trips combine both canyons with a stop at a Bedouin camp for tea, making it a satisfying half-day desert excursion.
