Graeco-Roman Museum Tour
From €19
The Graeco-Roman Museum's collection is unlike any other in Egypt — rather than Pharaonic artifacts, it traces the distinct hybrid culture that emerged in Alexandria after Alexander the Great's conquest, blending Egyptian, Greek and Roman artistic and religious traditions in ways found nowhere else in the country.
Expect statuary, coins, mosaics and funerary art that show gods depicted in a mix of styles, and everyday objects that illustrate how genuinely cosmopolitan ancient Alexandria was compared to the rest of Egypt at the time.
A good, relatively compact museum visit that gives real context for the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa and Pompey's Pillar if you're visiting those too.
