Catacombs & Roman Amphitheater Tour
From €37
This tour covers two of Alexandria's most distinctive ancient sites. The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa are a multi-level underground tomb complex, discovered by accident in 1900, whose carvings blend Egyptian, Greek and Roman funerary styles in a single burial chamber — a genuinely unusual mix that reflects Alexandria's cosmopolitan ancient identity.
The tour then visits the Roman amphitheater, a well-preserved excavated theater with white marble seating, one of the few Roman-era amphitheaters found anywhere in Egypt.
Together, these sites give a very different picture of ancient Alexandria than the Pharaonic temples further south — Greek, Roman and Egyptian influences layered directly on top of each other.
