The Best Time to Visit Egypt (A Local's Honest Guide)

Most guidebooks will tell you 'visit Egypt in winter' and leave it at that. Here's the more useful version. October to April is genuinely the most comfortable window for sightseeing — daytime temperatures in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan sit in a pleasant 20–28°C range, and evenings are cool enough for a light jacket. December and January are peak season: book accommodation and Nile cruises at least a month ahead. May and September are solid shoulder-season picks if you want fewer crowds and don't mind warmer afternoons. Summer (June–August) is genuinely hot in Upper Egypt — Luxor and Aswan regularly hit 40°C+. If you're set on a summer trip, the Red Sea coast (Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Marsa Alam) is a much better call than the Nile Valley, since sea breezes take the edge off and you'll spend most of your time in or near the water anyway.
