Beside the base of Khufu's pyramid, archaeologists once found a sealed pit packed with over a thousand pieces of cedar wood — no plans, no instructions, just a puzzle nearly five thousand years old. What they eventually rebuilt is the solar boat: a full-size wooden vessel meant to carry the pharaoh across the sky with the sun god, and one of the oldest intact ships anywhere on earth.

In 2021 the boat was carefully moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum, a short distance from the pyramids, where it is now displayed. Your guide walks you through how it was found, why it was buried, and how it survived so long hidden in the rock, and you can take in the details of the joinery and ropework that held it together without a single nail.
