Visitors spend an hour and a half walking through the Nubian Museum with a guide, taking in its award-winning collection and the context behind Nubian history, from ancient Kush to the relocation of villages when the Aswan Dam was built. The Kingdom of Kush gallery displays royal sculptures, jewelry, weapons and architectural elements from the era when Kushite pharaohs ruled Egypt. Photographs, oral histories and ethnographic objects follow the story of the relocated villages, now scattered across Egypt and Sudan. Reconstructed traditional Nubian houses, furnished with household objects, tools, clothing, musical instruments and crafts, show daily life before the dam and Lake Nasser covered the villages. A landscaped garden on the approach holds a reconstructed Nubian village dwelling, which leads into the collection inside.
