Visitors walk across Stanley Bridge, follow the beach promenade and stop at the nearby cafés overlooking the Mediterranean, all in one easy seaside walk that starts at the bridge itself. The arched silhouette of the bridge is among the most photographed spots in Alexandria. Its towers are designed in an Islamic style that recalls the architecture of Montazah Palace. The bridge was built as part of the work to upgrade and widen the Alexandria Corniche, and it was the first bridge in Egypt to be built out over the sea.
