Where Ras Mohammed is, what you can see by land and by boat, and how to plan your day from Sharm El Sheikh.

Ras Mohammed sits at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, where the Gulf of Suez meets the Gulf of Aqaba. Sharm El Sheikh is the nearest city. The park covers about 480 square kilometres and was set up as a protected area in 1983 by Egypt's Environmental Affairs Agency to protect its marine and land wildlife.

WHY IT MATTERS
About 220 species of coral are recorded here, and at the southern end of the park there is a stand of mangroves (Avicennia). Well-known sites include Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef, Anemone City, and the shallow, tidal Magic Lake (also called the Enchanted Lake).

TWO WAYS TO SEE IT
By land (about 5 hours from Sharm): the park gate, the coastal viewpoints, the mangrove channel and Marsa Ghozlani, and Magic Lake. It suits photographers and anyone who prefers to stay out of the water.
By boat (snorkeling or diving): boats leave from a Sharm marina and reach the park's reefs in under an hour. Snorkeling stops are chosen on the day by the captain according to sea conditions. Dives are matched to your certification level, and the well-known drop-offs can have current.

PLANNING YOUR DAY
Choose a morning departure: the park has opening hours, and your guide confirms them on the day together with the entry arrangements. Bring swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and your passport or an ID copy for park registration. Please do not touch or stand on coral, feed fish, or collect shells.

WHAT WE CANNOT PROMISE
We never promise a particular animal. What you see depends on the day, the site and the sea.
